Come on by the CITS Office for the IT&S PhD Emphasis Open House Recpetion! At the event we'll:

  • Hear from Dr. Miriam Metzger, Education Director of the IT&S Emphasis, and Dr. Joe Walther, Director of the Center for Information Technology & Society
  • Learn about the Benefits of joining and the Requirements for completing the IT&S Emphasis
  • Meet current faculty teaching courses associated with the IT&S Emphasis and other students interested in issues related to the Societal Implications of Information Technology
  • Enjoy refreshments and snacks while networking with a multidisciplinary group of academics

The IT&S Ph.D. emphasis was born from the recognition that the study of technology and society is inherently multidisciplinary. Most scholars working in this area ground their investigations in a home discipline and methodology, but find it necessary to explore literatures and paradigms from other disciplines as well. The Ph.D. emphasis in Information Technology & Society at UCSB brings together doctoral students in engineering, science, social science, and the humanities to engage in multidisciplinary coursework and research into the cultural and societal changes resulting from the introduction and use of information technologies. The program provides training for graduate students planning dissertations dealing with the societal implications of information technology.
