Dr. Stephanie Tom Tong, a CITS visiting scholar, will give the LPE Choice Scholar lecture in the Communication Department's undergraduate honors society, and CITS and others are also invited. The lecture is entitled "Communication and Artificial Intelligence". Read the abstract of her talk below:

Many of us are already using artificial intelligence (AI) systems, even if we don't always recognize them. Google employs algorithms to help us find and sort information; we rely on the Netflix algorithm to help us select movies that fit our preferences. But as AI continues to develop, we see its influence on our decisions and behavior expanding into new areas like online dating and personal health. Accompanying these advancements in AI are new questions that this talk will address: How do people perceive AI technology? Are we comfortable with AI in these contexts? And do our feelings about AI affect our willingness to engage with it?
