Miriam Metzger
Professor of Communication
Professor Metzger received her Ph.D. from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California in 1997. After serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Dr. Metzger joined the faculty at UCSB in 2000. She is interested in the social uses and effects of communication technologies. Her research includes studies of the credibility of information in the new media environment, problems of online privacy and security, the impact of media on public opinion, and the theoretical and regulatory changes brought about by the development of new media technologies. Her work has been published in such journals as Human Communication Research, Journal of Communication, Communication Research, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mass Communication & Society, Communication Yearbook, New Media & Society, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Critical Studies in Media Communication, Communication Research Reports, and Information, Communication & Society.
