Last month, over 120 researchers, students, and industry experts attended the inaugural Responsible Machine Learning Summit at UCSB. Led by CITS Affiliate Prof. William Wang, the center focuses on establishing an ethical basis for machine learning. "We need to better understand the mutual influence between society and machine learning,” said William Wang. “Personally, I’m interested in improving the quality of life by learning the important societal factors and impacts that should be considered when building algorithms, such as fairness, transparency, privacy and accountability.” CITS Director Joe Walther spoke at the event along with several other distinguished speakers.
